Using Business Intelligence to Measure Individual Performance
Today’s law firm has become increasing more complex in its organizational structure. Gone are the days where a firm was broken up into 2 components, Lawyers and Non-Lawyers. As a firm’s organizational chart expands, each role inside a firm is increasingly being tasked with scientifically measuring their performance. However, each functional role within a law firm (Lawyer, Billing Lawyer, Practice Group Leader, CFO, CMO, COO, etc.) measures their performance on different sets of statistical metrics. Business Intelligence Systems (such as Data Fusion’s IntelliStat) can be an effective tool in managing the statistical performance of all components in your organization. This session will focus in on the most popular and unique metrics in use today while demonstrating how these metrics can be distributed across your firm so that this performance can be managed on a daily basis.

Thomson Elite Peer Group Webinar:
Increase your effectiveness in billing and conflict reporting

Monday, September 26th at 11:00 AM PDT / 2:00 PM EST
Webex presented by Allan Rousselle, Programmer and Instructor, Data Fusion

This presentation will explore ways to increase your effectiveness in billing and conflict reporting using Elite modules and Whitehill templates.

Join us to see how you can use a powerful new feature in Elite to smooth the transition from Visbill templates to Whitehill. One Whitehill template can be used to replace dozens of Visbill templates; our first segment will show you how you can transition your staff to using the new templates with a minimum of re-training and preserve the ability to use template overrides to switch formats. This technique is particularly useful if your users are prohibited from editing UDF’s or commonly use group billing features (billing a large number of matters or joint groups all at the same time with a template override.)

We will also cover how to use multiple versions of the same Whitehill variable within a template to automatically select the correct display options for complex choices such as VAT information for any country, office, currency or jurisdiction. By using this technique, you can often reduce the number of Whitehill templates needed, sometimes down to just one!

Customer Webinar : Publishing Business Intelligence Information Throughout Your Organization
FREE Webinar Event
Wednesday, September 7
10:00 am pacific / 1:00 pm eastern
Presented by Jeffrey Suhr

In today's business climate, access to "Business Intelligence" information should no longer be restricted to back office personnel. To maximize ROI and realize a system's maximum benefits, it is necessary to push this type of data throughout your organization. Learn how different Key Performance Metrics and Reports can be distributed to individuals based on their roles and responsibilities. The personalization of data ensures that key metrics needed by Administrators are accessible for them at the same time that individual timekeepers have access to the more specific financial metrics that they maintain responsibility for. This concept facilitates and promotes "Goal Alignment" within your organization. Data Fusion gives you the tools to make it happen.

Anyone is welcome to attend this session since Business Intelligence is most effective when it is widely distributed across functional roles.

Simplifying Client Profitability
Wednesday, June 15, 2005 from 4:15-5:15 pm
Presented by Larry Laing & Tim Sheedy of Reed Smith LLP

Is this client profitable? If you can’t answer this question then you are probably on the short end of a rate negotiation. Learn how one firm has simplified the costing process and is reaping the benefits of knowing who is making them money, who is not making them money, and why.

Using Business Intelligence to Effectively Negotiate Rates
Thursday, June 16, 2005 from 11:30-12:30 pm
Presented by Alan Corcoran

Managing client rates and discounts is a growing challenge for firm partners and administrators. The information in your Elite system can be combined with BI tools to set rate approval guidelines, provide partners with historical rate data, and perform profitability analyses specific to clients, areas of law, offices, etc.

Learn ways to avoid unprofitable rate concessions, be aware of existing discounts, and take advantage of volume, leverage and payment history. Use the information you already have to establish guidelines and control. Use sound economic data rather than personal pressure to negotiate client arrangements.

Thomson Elite Peer Group Webinar: Rate Negotiator: Using Business Intelligence To Effectively Negotiate Rates
Monday, March 21 at 2:00 PM EST
Webex presented by Larry Laing, President of Data Fusion

Managing client rates and discounts is a growing challenge for firm partners and administrators. Our Rate Negotiator allows a firm to set rate approval guidelines, provides partners with historical rate data, and performs profitability analyses specific to the client, the area of law, firm offices, etc.

Instead of blindly agreeing to potentially unprofitable rate concessions, a partner can knowledgeably counter with competitive but fair rates that recognize the value of the services offered. For example, a client may already be receiving a 15% discount and can be reminded of this. Or, the partner can offer savings tied to volume, increased leverage, or speed of payment.

With the Rate Negotiator, partners have a clear picture of acceptable price ranges, and know when to defer to senior management should client demands exceed their authority to discount rates. This provides more control to both firm management, and the partner negotiating the fee arrangement. As a result, the partner can take the negotiation out of the realm of the personal and shift it back to business economics.
